Professor Daniel Yeung

Daniel S. Yeung received his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Case Western Reserve University, USA. He was an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics and later the School of Computer Science and Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York from 1974-1980. In the next ten years He held industrial and business positions as a Technical Specialist/Application Software Group Leader at the Computer Consoles, Inc., Rochester, New York, an Information Resource Sub-manager/Staff Engineer at the Military and Avionics Division, TRW Inc., San Diego, California, and an Information Scientist of the Information System Operation Lab, General Electric Corporate Research and Development Centre, Schenectady, New York. In 1989 he joined City Polytechnic of Hong Kong as an Associate Head/Principal Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science. Then he served as the founding Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University until his retirement at 2006. Currently he is a Chair Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China. Dr. Yeung is a fellow of the IEEE and served as the President of IEEE SMC Society in 2008-09. His current research interests include neural-network sensitivity analysis, large scale data retrieval problem and cyber security.

 

Dr. Eric C. C. Tsang

Eric C. C. Tsang received the B.S. degree in computer studies from the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in computing from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, in 1996. He is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Information Technology, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau, China. His current research interests include fuzzy systems, rough sets, fuzzy rough sets, multiple classifier systems and deep learning.

 

Dr. James N. K. Liu

James N.K. Liu (SM’07) received the BSc(Hons) and MPhil degrees in mathematics and computational modeling from Murdoch University Australia, in 1982 and 1987 respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in artificial intelligence from La Trobe University, Australia, in 1991. While working on his degree, he worked as a computer scientist at the federal agency of Australia till 1990. He joined the Aeronautical Research Laboratory (ARL) of Defence Science and Technology Organization in Australia as a research scientist in the early 1990s. At ARL, he helped perform AI research in areas of human factors and mission enhancement. Dr Liu joined the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 1994. He was an associate professor and had been the scheme chairman of postgraduate scheme since 2001.  He retired from PolyU in late 2014 and has been engaging in consultancy work in Australia and Hong Kong. Dr Liu is currently an academic advisor and external examiner of HKUSPACE, and the Chairman of the IEEE SMC Hong Kong Chapter. His current research interests include forecasting technology, deep learning systems, uncertainty- based decision support, ontology modeling for content management, e-Learning systems, and e-Commerce development and applications. He had been the Special Sessions Co-Chair for various conferences including IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), IEEE ICDM International Workshops, World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI), and International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery (FSKD).

 

Dr. Patrick Chan

Patrick P. K. Chan received the Ph.D. degree from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2009. He is currently Associate Professor of School of Computer Science and Engineering, and the person in charge of Machine Learning and Cybernetics Research Laboratory in South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China. He is also a part-time Lecturer of Hyogo College of Medicine, Japan. His current research interests include pattern recognition, multiple classifier system, biometric, computer security, deep learning and reinforcement learning. Dr. Chan was a member of the governing boards of IEEE SMC Society 14-16 and also the Chairman of IEEE SMCS Hong Kong Chapter 14-15. He is the counselor of IEEE Student Branch in South China University of Technology. He serves as an organizing committee chair of several international conferences, and an associate editor for international journals including Information Sciences, and International Journal of Machine Learning and Cybernetics.

 

Dr. Zhimin He

Zhimin He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the South China University of Technology, China, in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He is a lecturer at Foshan University, Guangzhou, China. His current research interests include pattern recognition, adversarial learning and information security.

 

Dr. Fei Zhang

Fei Zhang received the PH.D. degree from South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China. She is currently a lecturer with the College of Computer and Information Engineering, Henan Normal University, Xinxiang, China. Her current research interests include machine learning, computer security  and recommender system.
